Peter Max, one of America's most recognized artists was the official artist for Earth Day 1995.

Peter Max is one of the most important artists of our time. He evolved from a visionary pop artist of the 1960's to a master of neo-expressionism, and his techniques of vibrant color have become a part of the contemporary American culture.

In his global causes, Max is a passionate environmentalist and defender of human and animal rights. Max often uses American symbols in his artwork and has done paintings and projects for Presidents Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, and Clinton. In 1994, Max created a “Peace Accord” painting for the White House to commemorate the historic signing. Max has completed his fourth Grammy Award poster, redesigned NBC television’s symbolic peacock, was appointed as the official artist for 5 Super Bowls, the World Cup USA, the U.S. Tennis Open, and the NHL all-star game. Recently he created six poster images in response to the September 11th attacks. Proceeds from the sale of these works were donated to the September 11th, Twin Towers, and Survivors relief funds. In October 2002, Max created 356 portrait paintings of the firefighters who perished in the September 11th terrorist attacks. Each painting was presented to the surviving families of the firefighters at a ceremony at Madison Square Garden. Also in 2002, Harry N. This is an absolutely fabulous pastel portrait of a gentleman in a blue coat and wearing a powdered wig holding a gold box adorned with a lion in the trees.
We believe this portrait to be European, however, this is just an "assumption" on our part.
Description from the estate appraisal:
Appraised in 2002 by Kaminski Auctioneers & Appraisers - Beverly, MA.

"Pastel on paper mounted on board of man holding box. Circa 1815. Unsigned. Empire frame. 22" x 16".
Taking measurements from the exposed back we determine the pastel portrait to be approximately 23" x 16 3/4". The frame measures 27 1/2" x 21 1/2".
The frame is in need of veneer repair and needs to be tightened up can be seen in the photo. The original glass is still intact. Typical old glass appears wavy. We are not giving the frame any value in our listing price.
This item comes from an estate and is being sold for a client.
